How to choose a dehumidifier
A dehumidifier pulls excess moisture from the air to stop condensation, damp patches and mould, and it can dry laundry indoors faster.
1. Compressor or desiccant?
| Compressor | Desiccant | |
|---|---|---|
| Best in | Heated homes (15°C+) | Cold rooms, garages, conservatories |
| Running cost | Lower | Higher |
| Noise | Moderate | Quieter |
| Weight | Heavier | Lighter |
2. Choose the right extraction rate
- 7–10L per day: flats and 1–2 bedroom homes with mild damp.
- 12–16L per day: 3–4 bedroom homes or regular laundry drying.
- 20L per day and above: larger homes, serious damp or drying out after a leak.
3. Useful features
- Humidistat to stop automatically at your target humidity (40–60% is ideal).
- Laundry mode for drying clothes indoors.
- Continuous drainage so you do not need to empty the tank.
- Built-in air filter for extra dust and allergen control.
